The Grand Tour goes beyond Banteay Kdei towards Sras Srang, Pre Rup, East Mebon, Ta Som and Preah Khan before heading back towards Angkor Thom and eventually Angkor Wat. This is a full day excursion and is again available by air-conditioned car, tuk tuk or mini van, according to your preference.

The Grand Tour is an opportunity to see all of the major sights in one day and is perfect for those who have limited time in Siem Reap, or would like to spend some of their stay exploring some of the magnificent sights that can be seen a little further afield. On the journey between the ancient temples you will see some of the traditional rural life with rice paddy fields and water buffalo.

Again, your guide, Chanthy, will accompany you along the way, explaining the significance of each of the temples and where they sit in the overall history of this UNESCO listed area.

Banteay Samre

The interior moat at Banteay Samre

This beautifully carved and restored 12th Century temple is dedicated to Vishnu and lies 400m from the East Baray. The temple gets its name from the Samre people who inhabited the area at the base of Phnom Kulen and is built in a style similar to that of Angkor Wat.

One of the standout features of the complex is its interior moat which is surrounded by laterite paving. The carvings on the walls around the edge of the moat depict lotus flowers and it is easy for the visitor to imagine what a blissfully serene place this must have been when occupied. A worthy addition to the Grand Tour!
