My name is Chanthy and I have lived my whole life in Siem Reap. Born as the occupying Vietnamese prepared to quit Cambodia in the late 1980s, I had a challenging childhood, losing both of my parents at a young age. As a teenager, my siblings and I survived in the jungle eating insects and anything else we could find as there was no one who could provide us with shelter.

I am self taught and worked briefly as a teacher of English with local children and have hopes of re-entering teaching one day. I love to share what I know with the local children and recognise the importance to the young people of Cambodia if they are to succeed in their futures.

Today, I am married and have two young children of my own. My family and I live in a small village close to the centre of Siem Reap and my siblings all live close by. We love to spend time together now.

Quite early in my work as a tuk tuk driver, I realised the importance of social media in maintaining contact with previous clients, many of whom have returned to Siem Reap on numerous occasions and have now become friends. Facebook has provided me with some work as the small network of friends I have gained around the world have referred friends who are visiting Cambodia to me. It is my hope that one day I can visit those who have visited me in their own countries!
